We're still itchy here. We got a plug in flea trap, and this morning I woke up and went straight to the trap to see what the results were. We caught 2-3 dozen in the trap.
In one room.
I think it's time to burn the place down.
But the last time I checked, arson was illegal.
So we need a different plan. I've done a lot of research on fleas, and it makes me even more itchy and freaked out than before. Apparently, if you don't kill ALL stages of the flea life cycle, you will have a recurring problem. And, get this, the adult flea only constitutes 5% of the actual flea population in your home. Meaning the flea population typically consists of 50% eggs, 30% larvae, 15% pupae, and 5% adult fleas (the ones that look like little tiny black bugs and bite). Which means that we have at leas 1000 fleas in different stages of life in our home? Seriously? I could puke.
So here's our plan. We contacted the vet and they have some stuff that you spray on EVERYTHING, and once it dries, you don't need to clean it off, meaning it's not poisonous once it has dried. So the plan is to first tidy the house so there are no toys or anything on the floor. Then I'm going to gather every SINGLE washable item in our house, including every single item of clothing in every single drawer or hanging up, all wash cloths and towels, all bed linens, all stuffed animals, etc. and separate them load by load into plastic garbage bags, and seal the bags up tight. Then I'll spray the laundry room, then I'll put the garbage bags in the laundry room, then plug in the light trap in the laundry room, then shut the door. Then I'm going to spray every inch of our house, including beds, under beds, and under EVERYTHING. Then we'll leave for a few hours. And once I come back, the plan is to very carefully dump load by load of laundry directly into the washer, and wash every single thing, then dry every single thing, then very carefully remove every single thing from the dryer and immediately fold and put away. Then spray the laundry room again.
HOPEFULLY this will take care of the problem. There is a possibility that they might recur in a couple weeks to a month, in which case I'll have to repeat the entire process. Ugh.
